Good evening to the entire Maxwell family Circle though I am more familiar with Mrs. Skeete. Our sincerest condolences to the entire family. Mr Maxwell or Maxwell as he was affectionally called by my dad and the family circle was well respected by my dad with whom he worked for several years on numerous properties along the west coast of this country of ours. I knew him from a boy and recognised the relationship that existed between him and my dad. It was one purely of reliability in that in a demanding work environment upon reflection on it, in culture not akin to that kind of demand, it was sometimes difficult to keep that dutiful and motivated craftsman on the job. However my dad could always rely on Maxwell to be punctual and supportive in the execution of any project on which they were working. He was a soft spoken, respectful and respected for his skill in his craft of masonry and would be keen to add his two-cents worth without fear of contradiction. He basically lived by these general rules.

There’s no contradiction regarding parents of that era who made significant sacrifices to ensure that we had a secondary education the main channel of upward mobility. At the same time maintaining a social and parental compass that gave direction to the immediate family and those of the area giving truth to the adage it takes a village to raise a child. This was further reinforced by the insistence on church going which was a central part of Maxwell’s Christian practice. He loved his church and was always keen to see the effective functioning of the Church and Anglicanism as a whole. Ultimately Maxwell had a rich life, yet in a modest way as we in the parish have practised it in our upbringing. Many are the richer for knowing him.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

    Regards
Humphrey Broome on behalf of the Broome Family Benthams St. Lucy
